והוה כד שמע מלכא חזקיה ובזע ית לבושוהי ואתכסי בסקא ועל לבית מקדשא דיי:
dyy mqdsha lbyth wel bsqa wathksy lbwshwhy yth wbze khzqyh mlka shme kd whwh
When King Hezekiah heard it, he tore his clothes, covered himself with sackcloth, and went into Yahweh’s house.

ושלח ית אליקים די ממנא על ביתא ושבנא ספרא וסבי כהניא כד מכסן סקיא לות ישעיהו נביא בר אמוץ:
amwts br nbya ysheyhw lwth sqya mksn kd khnya wsby spra wshbna bytha el mmna dy alyqym yth wshlkh
He sent Eliakim, who was over the household, Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covered with sackcloth, to Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz.

ואמרו ליה כדנן אמר חזקיהו יום עקא וחיסודין וניאוצא יומא הדין ארי אקיפתנא עקא כאתתא דיתבא על מתברא וחיל לית לה למילד:
lmyld lh lyth wkhyl mthbra el dythba kaththa eqa aqypthna ary hdyn ywma wnyawtsa wkhyswdyn eqa ywm khzqyhw amr kdnn lyh wamrw
They said to him, “Hezekiah says, ‘Today is a day of trouble, of rebuke, and of rejection; for the children have come to the point of birth, and there is no strength to deliver them.

מאים שמיע קדם יי אלהך ית כל פתגמי רבשקה דשלחיה מלכא דאתור רבוני לחסדא עמא דיי קימא ויעביד פורענותא על כל פתגמיא דשמעין קדמוהי יי אלהך ותתחנן בצלו על שארא הדין דאשתאר:
dashthar hdyn shara el btslw wththkhnn alhk yy qdmwhy dshmeyn pthgmya kl el pwrenwtha wyebyd qyma dyy ema lkhsda rbwny dathwr mlka dshlkhyh rbshqh pthgmy kl yth alhk yy qdm shmye maym
It may be Yahweh your God will hear all the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master has sent to defy the living God, and will rebuke the words which Yahweh your God has heard. Therefore lift up your prayer for the remnant that is left.’”

ואתו עבדי מלכא חזקיהו לות ישעיהו:
ysheyhw lwth khzqyhw mlka ebdy wathw
So the servants of King Hezekiah came to Isaiah.

ואמר להון ישעיהו כדנן תימרון לרבונכון כדנן אמר יי לא תדחל מן קדם פתגמיא דשמעתא דחסידו עולימי מלכא דאתור קדמי:
qdmy dathwr mlka ewlymy dkhsydw dshmetha pthgmya qdm mn thdkhl la yy amr kdnn lrbwnkwn thymrwn kdnn ysheyhw lhwn wamr
Isaiah said to them, “Tell your master this: ‘Yahweh says, “Don’t be afraid of the words that you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.

הא אנא יהיב ביה רוחא וישמע בסורא ויתוב לארעיה ואפליגיה בחרבא בארעיה:
bareyh bkhrba waplygyh lareyh wythwb bswra wyshme rwkha byh yhyb ana ha
Behold, I will put a spirit in him, and he will hear news, and will return to his own land. I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.”’”

ותב רבשקה ואשכח ית מלכא דאתור מגיח קרבא על לבנה ארי שמע ארי נטל מלכיש:
mlkysh nTl ary shme ary lbnh el qrba mgykh dathwr mlka yth washkkh rbshqh wthb
So Rabshakeh returned and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah; for he had heard that he had departed from Lachish.

ושמע על תרהקה מלכא דכוש למימר הא נפק לאגחא קרבא עמך ותב ושלח אזגדין לות חזקיה למימר:
lmymr khzqyh lwth azgdyn wshlkh wthb emk qrba lagkha npq ha lmymr dkwsh mlka thrhqh el wshme
When he heard it said of Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, “Behold, he has come out to fight against you,” he sent messengers again to Hezekiah, saying,

כדנן תימרון לחזקיה מלך שבטא דבית יהודה למימר לא יטעינך אלהך דאת רחיץ ביה למימר לא תתמסר ירושלם ביד מלכא דאתור:
dathwr mlka byd yrwshlm ththmsr la lmymr byh rkhyts dath alhk yTeynk la lmymr yhwdh dbyth shbTa mlk lkhzqyh thymrwn kdnn
“Tell Hezekiah king of Judah this: ‘Don’t let your God in whom you trust deceive you, saying, Jerusalem will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.

הא את שמעתא ית דעבדו מלכי דאתור לכל מדינתא לגמרותהון ואת מדמי לאשתיזבא:
lashthyzba mdmy wath lgmrwthhwn mdyntha lkl dathwr mlky debdw yth shmetha ath ha
Behold, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, by destroying them utterly. Will you be delivered?

השיזבא יתהון דחלת עממיא דחבילו אבהתי ית גוזן וית חרן ורצף ובני עדן דבתלסר:
dbthlsr edn wbny wrtsp khrn wyth gwzn yth abhthy dkhbylw emmya dkhlth ythhwn hshyzba
Have the gods of the nations delivered them, which my fathers have destroyed—Gozan, Haran, Rezeph, and the children of Eden who were in Telassar?

אן מלכא דחמת ומלכא דארפד ומלכא דלקרתא ספרוים הא טלטילונון ואגליאונון:
waglyawnwn TlTylwnwn ha sprwym dlqrtha wmlka darpd wmlka dkhmth mlka an
Where is the king of Hamath, the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivvah?’”

ונסיב חזקיהו ית אגרתא מיד אזגדיא וקרינן וסליק לבית מקדשא דיי ופרסינן חזקיהו קדם יי:
yy qdm khzqyhw wprsynn dyy mqdsha lbyth wslyq wqrynn azgdya myd agrtha yth khzqyhw wnsyb
Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers and read it. Then Hezekiah went up to Yahweh’s house, and spread it before Yahweh.

וצלי חזקיהו קדם יי ואמר יי אלהא דישראל דשכנתיה שריא עיל מן כרוביא את הוא יי ולית בר מנך לכל מלכות ארעא את עבדת ית שמיא וית ארעא:
area wyth shmya yth ebdth ath area mlkwth lkl mnk br wlyth yy hwa ath krwbya mn eyl shrya dshknthyh dyshral alha yy wamr yy qdm khzqyhw wtsly
Hezekiah prayed before Yahweh, and said, “Yahweh, the God of Israel, who are enthroned above the cherubim, you are the God, even you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth.

גלי קדמך יי ודון ושמיע קדמך יי ואתפרע ועביד פורענותא על כל פתגמי דסנחריב דשלחיה לחסדא עמא דיי קימא:
qyma dyy ema lkhsda dshlkhyh dsnkhryb pthgmy kl el pwrenwtha webyd wathpre yy qdmk wshmye wdwn yy qdmk gly
Incline your ear, Yahweh, and hear. Open your eyes, Yahweh, and see. Hear the words of Sennacherib, which he has sent to defy the living God.
17
בקושטא יי אחריבו מלכי אתור ית עממיא וית ארעהון:
arehwn wyth emmya yth athwr mlky akhrybw yy bqwshTa
Truly, Yahweh, the kings of Assyria have laid waste the nations and their lands,
18
ומוקדין ית טעותהון בנורא ארי לא טעון דאית בהון צרוך אינון אלהן עובד ידי אנשא אעא ואבנא ואבדונון:
wabdwnwn wabna aea ansha ydy ewbd alhn aynwn tsrwk bhwn dayth Tewn la ary bnwra Tewthhwn yth wmwqdyn
and have cast their gods into the fire; for they were no gods, but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone. Therefore they have destroyed them.

וכען יי אלהנא פרוקנא כען מן ידיה וידעון כל מלכות ארעא ארי את יי אלהים לית בר מנך:
mnk br lyth alhym yy ath ary area mlkwth kl wydewn ydyh mn ken prwqna alhna yy wken
Now therefore, Yahweh our God, save us, I beg you, out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you, Yahweh, are God alone.”

ושלח ישעיהו בר אמוץ לות חזקיהו למימר כדנן אמר יי אלהא דישראל דבעיתא מן קדמי על סנחריב מלכא דאתור שמיע קדמי:
qdmy shmye dathwr mlka snkhryb el qdmy mn dbeytha dyshral alha yy amr kdnn lmymr khzqyhw lwth amwts br ysheyhw wshlkh
Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, “Yahweh, the God of Israel, says ‘You have prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria, and I have heard you.

דין פתגמא די גזר יי עלוהי מבסרא לך מעיקא עלך מלכות כנשתא דציון בתרך רישיהון מנידין עמא דירושלם:
dyrwshlm ema mnydyn ryshyhwn bthrk dtsywn knshtha mlkwth elk meyqa lk mbsra elwhy yy gzr dy pthgma dyn
This is the word that Yahweh has spoken concerning him: ‘The virgin daughter of Zion has despised you and ridiculed you. The daughter of Jerusalem has shaken her head at you.

ית מן חסידתא ועל מן אתרברבתא וקדם מן ארימתא קלא וזקיפתא לרומא עינך אמרת מלין דלא כשרין קדם קדישא דישראל:
dyshral qdysha qdm kshryn dla mlyn amrth eynk lrwma wzqyptha qla arymtha mn wqdm athrbrbtha mn wel khsydtha mn yth
Whom have you defied and blasphemed? Against whom have you exalted your voice and lifted up your eyes on high? Against the Holy One of Israel!

ביד אזגדך חסידתא עמא דיי ואמרת בסגיאות רתיכי אנא סליקית לתקוף כרכיהון אף איחוד בית מקדשהון ואקטול שפר גבריהון מבחר שלטוניהון ואכביש קרית תוקפיהון ואשיצי סגי משריתהון:
mshrythhwn sgy washytsy thwqpyhwn qryth wakbysh shlTwnyhwn mbkhr gbryhwn shpr waqTwl mqdshhwn byth aykhwd ap krkyhwn lthqwp slyqyth ana rthyky bsgyawth wamrth dyy ema khsydtha azgdk byd
By your messengers, you have defied the Lord, and have said, “With the multitude of my chariots, I have come up to the height of the mountains, to the innermost parts of Lebanon, and I will cut down its tall cedars and its choice cypress trees; and I will enter into his farthest lodging place, the forest of his fruitful field.

אנא הויתי חפיר גובין ושתי מין נוכראין וטפחית בפרסת רגלי עמא דעמי כל מי נהרין עמיקין:
emyqyn nhryn my kl demy ema rgly bprsth wTpkhyth nwkrayn myn wshthy gwbyn khpyr hwythy ana
I have dug and drunk strange waters, and I will dry up all the rivers of Egypt with the sole of my feet.”

הלא שמעתא מלקדמין מה דעבדית לפרעה מלכא דמצרים הלא על דשליט בהון ואף עלך אתנביאו נביי ישראל ולא תבתא ודא חזיא קדמי מיומי קדם למעבד לך אף אתקינתא כען איתיתה ודא הות לך לתקלא על דהואה קדמך כאתרגושת גלין דישחו קירוין כריכן:
krykn qyrwyn dyshkhw glyn kathrgwshth qdmk dhwah el lthqla lk hwth wda aythythh ken athqyntha ap lk lmebd qdm mywmy qdmy khzya wda thbtha wla yshral nbyy athnbyaw elk wap bhwn dshlyT el hla dmtsrym mlka lpreh debdyth mh mlqdmyn shmetha hla
Haven’t you heard how I have done it long ago, and formed it of ancient times? Now I have brought it to pass, that it should be yours to lay waste fortified cities into ruinous heaps.

ויתביהון אתקצר חיליהון אתברו ובהיתו הוו כעשב חקליא וכירוק דתאה כעשב אגריא דישלוק עד דלא מטא למהוי שובלין:
shwblyn lmhwy mTa dla ed dyshlwq agrya keshb dthah wkyrwq khqlya keshb hww wbhythw athbrw khylyhwn athqtsr wythbyhwn
Therefore their inhabitants had little power. They were dismayed and confounded. They were like the grass of the field and like the green herb, like the grass on the housetops and like grain blasted before it has grown up.
27
ומיתבך בעיצה ומיפקך לאגחא קרבא ומיתך לארעא דישראל גלי קדמי וית דארגיזתא קדמי גלי:
gly qdmy dargyztha wyth qdmy gly dyshral larea wmythk qrba lagkha wmypqk beytsh wmythbk
But I know your sitting down, your going out, your coming in, and your raging against me.

חלף דארגיזתא על מימרי ואתרגשותך סליקת לקדמי ואשוי שירין בליסתך וזמם בספותך ואתיבינך באורחא דאתיתא בה:
bh dathytha bawrkha wathybynk bspwthk wzmm blysthk shyryn washwy lqdmy slyqth wathrgshwthk mymry el dargyztha khlp
Because of your raging against me, and because your arrogance has come up into my ears, therefore I will put my hook in your nose, and my bridle in your lips, and I will turn you back by the way by which you came.’

ודין לך אתא אכול בשתא חדא כתין ובשתא תניניתא כתכתין ובשתא תליתאה זרועו וחצודו וצובו כרמין ואכולו אביהון:
abyhwn wakwlw krmyn wtswbw wkhtswdw zrwew thlythah wbshtha kthkthyn thnynytha wbshtha kthyn khda bshtha akwl atha lk wdyn
“This will be the sign to you: This year, you will eat that which grows of itself, and in the second year that which springs from that; and in the third year sow and reap, and plant vineyards and eat their fruit.

ויוספון משיזביא דבית יהודה דאשתארון כאילן די משלח שורשוהי לרע ומרים נופיה לעילא:
leyla nwpyh wmrym lre shwrshwhy mshlkh dy kayln dashtharwn yhwdh dbyth mshyzbya wywspwn
The remnant that has escaped of the house of Judah will again take root downward, and bear fruit upward.

ארי מירושלם יפקון שאר צדיקיא ושיזבת מקימי אוריתא מטורא דציון במימרא דיי צבאות תתעביד דא:
da ththebyd tsbawth dyy bmymra dtsywn mTwra awrytha mqymy wshyzbth tsdyqya shar ypqwn myrwshlm ary
For out of Jerusalem a remnant will go out, and out of Mount Zion those who shall escape. Yahweh’s zeal will perform this.
32
בכן כדנן אמר יי למלכא דאתור לא יעול לקרתא הדא ולא יקשית תמן גיר ולא יקדמינה בתריסין ולא יצבר עלה מליתא:
mlytha elh ytsbr wla bthrysyn yqdmynh wla gyr thmn yqshyth wla hda lqrtha yewl la dathwr lmlka yy amr kdnn bkn
“Therefore Yahweh says concerning the king of Assyria, ‘He will not come to this city, nor shoot an arrow there. He will not come before it with shield, nor cast up a mound against it.
33
באורחא דאתא בה יתוב ולקרתא הדא לא יעול אמר יי:
yy amr yewl la hda wlqrtha ythwb bh datha bawrkha
He will return the same way that he came, and he will not come to this city,’ says Yahweh.

ואגן על קרתא הדא למפרקה בדיל מימרי ובדיל דוד עבדי:
ebdy dwd wbdyl mymry bdyl lmprqh hda qrtha el wagn
‘For I will defend this city to save it, for my own sake and for my servant David’s sake.’”
35
והוה בליליא ההוא ונפק מלאכא דיי וקטל במשרית אתוראה מאה ותמנן וחמשא אלפין ואקדימו בצפרא והא כולהון פגרין מתין:
mthyn pgryn kwlhwn wha btspra waqdymw alpyn wkhmsha wthmnn mah athwrah bmshryth wqTl dyy mlaka wnpq hhwa blylya whwh
That night, Yahweh’s angel went out and struck one hundred eighty-five thousand in the camp of the Assyrians. When men arose early in the morning, behold, these were all dead bodies.
36
ונטל ואזל ותב סנחריב מלכא דאתור ויתיב בנינוה:
bnynwh wythyb dathwr mlka snkhryb wthb wazl wnTl
So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, went home, and lived at Nineveh.
37
והוה הוא סגיד בית נסרוך טעותיה ואדרמלך ושראצר בנוהי קטלוהי בחרבא ואינון אשתיזבו לארעא קרדו ומלך אסרחדון בריה תחותוהי:
thkhwthwhy bryh asrkhdwn wmlk qrdw larea ashthyzbw waynwn bkhrba qTlwhy bnwhy wshratsr wadrmlk Tewthyh nsrwk byth sgyd hwa whwh
As he was worshiping in the house of Nisroch his god, Adrammelech and Sharezer struck him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Ararat. Esar Haddon his son reigned in his place.
